Transition, the buzzword
Transition is the buzzword that has gained a boost after the recent approval of the Global Fund policy. It is no more than a euphemism for a less guilt-ridden exit of the funding mechanisms. Transition is a process, not an end in itself. It includes endless diagnoses, but the central issue should be how to resolve what comes out of these diagnoses, which is basically a question of ensuring sustainability.
Tracking Global Fund investments in human rights programs
In a recent GFO commentary, Ralf Jürgens, Senior Human Rights Coordinator at the Global Fund, flagged the need for increased Global Fund investment in programs which reduce human rights barriers to HIV, TB, and malaria services. Jürgens mentioned that far less than 1% of Global Fund money is spent on such programs, despite international consensus that this figure should be much higher. This article provides a closer look at how and where the Global Fund is investing in human rights programming; and explains that the Fund is being more transparent around where the funding gaps are, and how they may be addressed.
Latest Results Show Increase in HIV Treatment
Ahead of next week’s International AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria today released results that show a significant increase in the number of people being treated for HIV.

01 July 2016 – Geneva, Switzerland – The Stop TB Partnership in collaboration with UNAIDS and partners today launched the first ever gender assessment tool for national HIV and TB responses to support countries in Global Fund applications which builds on the UNAIDS HIV Gender Assessment Tool launched in 2013 – and adapted to include TB.
