On June 11-12, 2018, was held in Mexico City the “Regional Meeting on Public Financing of Civil Society for the Provision of Health Services: Advances, Challenges, and Lessons Learned in Latin America and the Caribbean”.

Organized by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, the meeting aimed to analyze the region experiences in the derived from public funding to CSOs for the provision of health services.

Some of the issues addressed were:

• Current Situation: International and regional commitments to expand national responses to AIDS and Tuberculosis. Review of relevant commitments: Agenda 2030 and SDG3, Strategy of the FM, Strategy of UNAIDS, Political Declaration 2016. The role of CSOs to leave no one behind and reach the established goals.
• Overview of public financing for civil society organizations for the provision of health services: What is it and how can it be used to strengthen responses to HIV and TB?
• The Mexican experience: background, contribution to the response to HIV and lessons learned.
• How to start the implementation of public financing mechanisms for civil society organizations for the provision of health services: identified obstacles and proposed solutions.
• Reforms to existing mechanisms: opportunities and challenges for CSOs in HIV and TB.
• The experiences of Argentina and Brazil: background, contribution to the response to HIV and lessons learned.
• Alternative ways of mobilizing resources for civil society.
• Next steps, including support from international cooperation to public financing mechanisms of civil society.
