Because tuberculosis (TB) remains the leading cause of death from infectious diseases and the biggest crises of our time, we must all remain at the forefront of advancing, promoting and protecting the rights of people living with TB or are affected by it. Human rights must be our true north if we really want to end up with tuberculosis.
Join the interested parties under the umbrella of the Nairobi Strategy on TB and Human Rights in more than 11 countries around the world, to demand more from the United Nations High Level Meeting on Tuberculosis by signing the statement.
The statement exposes four demands on the status and future of the UN Political Declaration HLM.
- To access TB diagnoses and medicines through the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) of the World Trade Organization (WTO), flexibility for all who need them;
- For the establishment of an effective and independent accountability mechanism;
- For the full incorporation of the language and content of human rights into the UN HLM Statement on the Political Declaration of TB;
- And for the representation of civil society among the plenary speakers of the UN HLM on TB to represent those affected who should boost the response to tuberculosis.
We invite countries, organizations and individuals to show their support for this statement, signing and sharing it widely.
