RedTraSex’s project called “Female Sex Workers from Latin America and the Caribbean Working to Create Alternatives to Help Reduce their Vulnerability to HIV” began to be implemented six years ago (from February 1st 2012 to February 1st 2018), and this female sex workers organization has recently published its project management report.
“In 2011, after several attempts, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria approved a regional proposal for the Women Sex Workers’ Network (RedTraSex). At that time, it was an unprecedented fact which marked the beginning of a new era which lasted six years, with numerous challenges, but also great achievements.” This is how RedTraSex’s report begins. The document describes how the organization won funding from Round 10 of the Global Fund and started implementing in 2012 a 12.5-million-dollar project.
The project was closed in 2018, with an efficient resource management which allowed them to achieve the objectives set for five years and continue implementing the project for one more year thanks to savings they had made. The report provides details on the way resources from the Global Fund were used, the achievements made and the impact the project has had.
We congratulate RedTraSex for their valuable contribution to the region with a project which reflects practical experience and a conceptual approach to sustainability.
