SANTO DOMINGO. – The Ministry of Public Health reported that the population of Dominican Republic is experiencing a complicated epidemiological situation.
In a bulletin, it states that rain caused flooding especially at the north and central area, which has given rise to outbreaks of diarrheal infections and respiratory diseases; while due to vectors the number of cases and fatalities has increased.
Seven provinces are under alert for cholera, whereas at the National District San Pedro de Macoris and Santo Domingo 5230 cases of Zika were reported, out of which 950 in pregnant women in the first semester of pregnancy.
Dominican Republic is the only island in the Caribbean where Malaria is still present, generating this year an increase with 662 cases and two fatalities.
Local medical services maintain vigilance over infants because of the possibility of developing the condition in the future, in the light of a new report presented by experts of the United States and Brazil.
