This year, Summit had as its main theme the “Democratic Governance against Corruption” and had the participation of different sectors of civil society, international organizations and representatives of the governments of the Americas countries. Through the 23 Coalition of “Population, Sexual Rights, Reproductive Rights and Development”, the\u00a0Latin American and Caribbean Women’s Health Network – LACWHN, the Platform “Right Here, Right Now “, the Inter-American Convention on Sexual and Reproductive Rights Campaign,<\/strong>\u00a0among other organizations and networks in Latin America and the Caribbean, denounced:<\/div>\n
    \n
  • The advance of corruption\u2019s cases, the criminalization of protest and militarization in the governments of the region; a situation that exacerbates the precarity and weakness of democratic institutions, affecting the guarantee of human rights.<\/li>\n
  • The fundamentalist offensive against sexual rights, reproductive rights, legal abortion, the rights of LTGBI people, the guarantee of comprehensive sexual education and access to sexual and reproductive health services.<\/li>\n
  • The democratic weakness expressed in the threat, absence of protection and inequality for human rights defenders.<\/li>\n
  • The criminalization of protest and the persecution of the sexual and reproductive rights defenders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    They also demanded from the States:<\/p>\n

    • To fulfill with international standards regarding respect for human rights and sexual rights and reproductive rights, without admitting setbacks or interference by religious postulates.<\/li>\n
    • Respect and guarantee of human rights without any discrimination, committing to eliminate any form of discrimination, inequality and violence against girls, women, young people and LTGBI people.<\/li>\n
    • To ensure the denunciation processes, investigation and punishment of corruption acts, guaranteeing the vigilance and active participation of civil society.<\/li>\n
    • Guarantee the enactment of policies and laws that allow all women to have access to a legal, safe and free abortion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
